Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a French philosopher, writer, and political theorist of the 18th century. His most famous work is “The Social Contract” (Du contrat social ou Principes du droit politique) published in 1762. It’s an influential work in political philosophy, in which Rousseau theorized about the best way to establish a political community in the face of the problems of commercial society, which he had already identified in his Discourse on Inequality (1755).
